About the Department

Recognised by the Bar Council of India, the University Law College is a constituent college of the University of Rajasthan and one of the oldest law-schools in India imparting legal education. The Law College, as it was originally called, was established in Jaipur by the government of the erstwhile State of Jaipur in 1947, that is the year corresponding with the foundation of the University of Rajasthan. It was housed, first in the building now known as the University Maharaja's College and had 306 students, a full time principal, one Reader, three Part-time teachers, In the beginning, only a two-year LL.B. Course was started from 1947 to 1952 and the Law College was affiliated to the University of Rajasthan. On July 1, 1953, the College was transferred by the State Government to the University of Rajasthan. The foundation stone of a separate Vidhi Bhawan was laid by Shri Barkatullah Khan, the then Chief Minister of Rajasthan, On Friday, 22nd December 1972. Teaching began in this building from the session 1975-76. During the session 1993-94, the College was declared by the UGC as a Constituent College of the University of Rajasthan, Jaipur.


Goal and Vision

University Law College known for its excellence in the Law field as the oldest institution in India. It produced outstanding lawyers, judges, researchers and academicians, etc. It aims conceptual clarity of law and practical skills of students which empower them to make a positive impact in legal profession and society at large. It also emphasizes on research, advocacy and skill development for overall growth of law students.


Best practices

The college has a rich library possessing books written by National and Internationals authors, journals case reporters and encyclopaedias. Moot court competition, mock trial, court visits, legal aid camps, NSS activities are integral part of its curriculum. The college frequently organises seminars and workshops and invites experts from legal fraternity to deliver special lectures. The College constantly endeavors to impart quality legal education and maintain high professional standards. It has produced countless academicians, judicial officers, advocates and statesmen. Presently, there are 24 full-time faculty members who are contributing immensely on academic as well as curriculum development in the college.

    • Course Offered

      • (a) Name of Prgramme- LL.B. Three Year Course (Semester Scheme) LL.B. Professional. This new course is now introduced from session 2024-25. Under this new scheme, there will be two semesters in a session i.e. total six (06) semesters in totality of six papers in each semester. The candidates of LL.B. shall be examined in six papers in each semester. Each paper shall carries 100 marks (Theory Paper of 80 Marks and 20 Marks of Practical Component). Each theory paper will be of three hours duration.
      • (b)Duration -03 (Three) Year (i)Total Seats -300 (ii) Eligibility - A)Graduate in any discipline with minimum 45 % marks for General/EWS/OBC/MBC and 40% for SC/ST/PH, in the aggregate shall be eligible for admission to LL.B.I Year through ULET Entrance Examination. B)60 % and above in the aggregate for students coming from Universities other than those situated in the State of Rajasthan
